The West Monroe baseball team ripped Pineville 10-0 in five innings on Wednesday for another key District 2-5A win at Shelby Aulds Field.
West Monroe has now won nine of its last 10 outings and Jonathan Snuggs was brilliant once again with 4 complete shutout innings.
It marked the second start in a row Snuggs did not allow any runs.
In relief for the second game in a row, sophomore pitcher Devereaux Guillory finished off the game with a scoreless fifth inning.
Guillory was part of a large group of sophomores that took the field with a large lead in the fifth inning.
“It is huge,” West Monroe coach Wade Simoneaux said of getting the next generation of Rebel’ stars early playing time in district games. “It is easy to get some varsity experience (late in the season).”
Simoneaux said Guillory gaining experience is a big plus for the young flame thrower as well as the team going forward with a couple of older players dealing with various injuries.
“(Guillory) is a sophomore who is going to be good for us,” Simoneaux said. “The more times we can put him out there, the better off he will be.”
Wes Tatum got the scoring going with a RBI single. Ryan Johnson then pushed across an RBI on a fielder choice and also beat out the throw to first base.
Zach Martin scored Chase DeJean and also hit a second RBI single. DeJean hit an RBI single while Carson Jones hit a RBI double followed by a Tom Biggs RBI triple.
The final runs for West Monroe came on a bases loaded walk scoring Mac Aulds and a Zach Hill RBI single to end the game on the mercy rule in the fifth inning.
West Monroe travels to Pineville to finish the series Thursday at 6 p.m. KPCH 99.3 FM will carry the game live on the radio and the app.
