A gutsy second half comeback led West Monroe to a 14-13 victory over a highly talented Ouachita squad Thursday night on Don Shows Field at Rebel Stadium.
West Monroe (9-0) trailed 13-7 at halftime and struggled to convert on some opportunities in the third quarter.
Ouachita (5-4) remained in control 13-7 starting the fourth quarter but the Rebels quickly grabbed the lead on the fourth quarter first play. Quarterback Slade Bolden hit Brandon Warren on a screen pass and Warren rumbled 64-yards down the sideline to the endzone for a touchdown.
Kicker Reece Aultman made the crucial extra point for a 14-13 advantage. West Monroe was brilliant on defense in the second half, holding the Lions scoreless the entire second half.
Bolden had another great performance. The senior rushed 28 times for 116 yards. Junior runningback Cameron Wright added 106 yards on just seven carries and the only other Rebel touchdown, a 78-yard run to tie the game 7-7 with 5:52 remaining in the second quarter.
"We knew it was going to be a rough battle," Bolden said. "Especially when we were down at halftime. Sometimes you have to just fight to the end. And it feels great when you leave it all on the field and come out with a victory."
