Smiles and quick one-liners dotted the 2018 Bayou Jamb press conference at St. Francis Medical Center on Tuesday ahead of the largest gathering of fans and teams for a jamboree in north Louisiana.
Bayou Jamb celebrates its 10-year anniversary by expanding to a two-day smorgasbord of football action on JPS Field at Malone Stadium in Monroe.
The West Monroe Rebels will take on long-time rival Neville Tigers in the marquee game Saturday at 7 p.m. on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The Rebels and Tigers also meet in week 5 of the regular season at Rebel Stadium so this will be just a taste of a bigger rivalry to come.
It still does little to stifle the excitement across the region.
“The interest in both communities, I think, is great. West Monroe coach Jerry Arledge said. “Neville is always extremely well coached and well endowed with talent. The big thing (early in the season) is getting ready for that (2-5A) district schedule. We are excited about Saturday night.”
