Lady Rebel softball falls to Ruston
Another big night from Chase DeJean propelled West Monroe baseball past Ruston 4-3 on Thursday at Shelby Aulds Field in West Monroe.
DeJean went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and pitched seven complete innings to lead the Rebels to a 1-0 start to District 2-5A play.
“Just my approach,” DeJean said about his success hitting the ball on Thursday. “I knew (Ruston) were going to come at me with a lot of curveballs. I just had to stay back on that backside.”
West Monroe trailed the Bearcats 3-1 in the fifth inning when the Rebel bats came alive with RBI hits from DeJean, Tom Biggs and the game-winner from Wes Tatum.
DeJean recovered from one rough inning to shut down the Ruston bats in the sixth and seventh innings.
“I like the fight our guys are showing,” West Monroe coach Wade Simoneaux said. “This last tournament (Sports City Classic) we were down in some games and we fought back. This game (Thursday) could have gone either way. We were fortunate to win it.”
The win was the fifth in the last seven games for West Monroe.
The teams finish the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ruston. KPCH 99.3 FM will carry the game.
