“It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.”
Such literary genius accurately describes the afternoon at Shelby Aulds Field on Saturday as the West Monroe baseball team beat Alexandria Senior High 6-3 in Game 1 before getting squashed 11-0 in the final game of the District 2-5A series.
Wes Tatum smashed a three-run home run and Carson Jones pitched out of a bases loaded jam to limit the Trojan offense in the fourth inning to secure the win.
Tom Biggs later hit for an RBI and scored himself when ASH committed two throwing errors. ASH had four total errors in the field for the first game of the day.
Jones came in to relieve starting pitcher Kent Berry who exited early with an apparent back injury.
West Monroe could not get many base runners in the second game and the depleted pitching staff due to injuries such as to Berry and Chase DeJean was apparent the latter part of the day.
