The West Monroe boys soccer team learned its playoff fate on Wednesday when the LHSAA boys soccer playoff brackets were unveiled. West Monroe will be the No. 17-seed in the Division I playoffs. The Rebels will travel to No. 16 Brother Martin in New Orleans Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The winner of the game visit top seed St. Paul of Covington next week for a second-round match.
Brother Martin is 14-5-5 on the year and comes from a very strong New Orleans district. West Monroe enters the contest with a record of 12-9-6.
“We don’t know a lot about them, but traditionally they are one of the top programs in the state,” WMHS Boys soccer coach Steven Dickman said. “They could be the best team we have seen this year. In order to win, we are going to have to pull everything we have been working on together and play the best game of the season.”
West Monroe is led offensively by Carlos Gomez and Alex Sanchez with strong play this season also coming from Jakob Christensen, Lanzel Burton and Dennis Palacios.
