Rebels take down Benton
The West Monroe baseball team overcame a tough Benton squad for a 6-3 win on Tuesday at Shelby Aulds Field in West Monroe.
The Rebels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on on RBI base hits by Colton Anderson and Marc Newman. Newman later put West Monroe ahead 3-0 on a sacrifice bunt.
West Monroe pitcher Jonathan Snuggs put together seven strong innings despite some trouble in the middle innings that resulted in a walk and a hitter batter with the bases loaded leading to Benton tying the game 3-3.
“I love the way we fought tonight,” West Monroe coach Wade Simoneaux said. “I love the way (Jonathan) Snuggs wanted the ball. We were about the pull him after the fifth and he said ‘Coach, I got this’. He throws three pitches for strikes. But I am excited about the direction of our offense.”
Cayden Pierce belted an RBI triple for the go ahead in the fifth inning, Pierce later scored on a throwing error and Tom Biggs brought in the final run on a RBI single and 6-3 Rebel victory.
