The West Monroe Lady Rebel basketball season came to an end Thursday following a 51-42 loss to No. 17 Thibodaux at Rebel Gymnasium.
The No. 16-seeded Lady Rebels fell behind early and stormed back before a big second half propelled the Lady Tigers to victory.
A big run to end the second quarter was part of a wild first half that had six ties and three lead changes. West Monroe surged back from trailing 11-6 early on to tying the game 21-21 at halftime.
In the second half, some of the youth showed up for West Monroe with three sophomores getting significant minutes and the Lady Tigers made key defensive stops down the stretch.
Faith Robinson led the way for West Monroe with 13 points while Dezarae Stewart chipped in 11 points.
“It just seemed like everything went (Thibodaux) way,” West Monroe coach John Green said. “We played hard. Some nights in basketball it is like that.” Thibodaux advances to host No. 1 Barbe on Monday in the second round of the LHSAA Class 5A playoffs.
