Lady Rebels hammer Alexandria
The West Monroe Lady Rebel softball team exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth and went on to overcome Alexandria 10-1 in District 2-5A play Thursday in West Monroe.
The Lady Rebels fell behind 1-0 before Kamryn Eaton blasted a two-run home run to give West Monroe a lead they would not relinquish.
A pair of runs scored on pass balls on Alexandria as well as a Kenzie Greer base hit scored runs in the fifth as well as a two-run double by Ashley Pearson before a throwing error allowed West Monroe to steal home and take a 9-1 lead.
Eaton later hit a RBI double in the sixth-inning for an insurance run and 10-1 lead.
"We had good at bats (early, we just didn't make anything happen," West Monroe coach Amy Daigle said. "Our kids never gave up. They made good adjustments, and you saw what happened. I think, in turn, that gave us even more confidence on the mound and in the field."
In a bit of a surprising move, West Monroe started Logan Dalfiume at pitcher in lieu of star hurler Cassidy Riley.
Riley came into the game in the seventh inning to shut down the Lady Trojans and preserve the victory for West Monroe.
