Lady Rebel softball begins district play at Ruston
The West Monroe softball team begins district play Tuesday at the Ruston Lady Bearcats.
First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
West Monroe (5-4) have really found their stride at the plate as of late.
The Lady Rebels have produced 23 runs in the last four games.
Jenna McKee and Kenzie Greer are leading at the plate as of late. McKee is hitting for over .500 average.
West Monroe has also gotten big help from its young stable of players including freshmen Maddie Hayden and Kamryn Eaton.
Ruston (4-2) is the first in a long string of tough district games for the Lady Rebels. District 2-5A has long been considered of the best districts in all of Louisiana High School softball.
“We got to see Ruston when we played a double header (to open the season) at (Louisiana) Tech,” West Monroe coach Amy Daigle said. “We have to hit the ball well. Ruston has a lot of speed.”
West Monroe will send Cassidy Rhea to pitch on Tuesday. Rhea has risen to the challenge and has positioned herself as one of the top pitchers in the area.
“She has become a great leader,” Daigle said. “And her personality is quiet.”
