Rebels react after falling in the Wossman tourney, 61-50
West Monroe saw a halftime lead disappear before falling to Lake Charles College Prep 61-50 on Friday in the George Belton Invitational at Wossman High School in Monroe.
The Rebels lead 27-21 at halftime, but some cold shooting and poor rebounding allowed the Blazers to fire off a 17-5 run in the third quarter to take full control.
“They went into zone and we did not shoot the ball well,” WMHS coach Kyle Hill said. “We have not been able to practice for a few days and when we don’t get to shoot, we don’t shoot the ball well like tonight. So, when they went into zone, that really hurt us.”
LCCP led by as much as 14 in the fourth quarter as the Rebels mounted a comeback and were within 45-39 at one point.
Jerry Day led the Rebels with 12 points while Chris Tyler chipped in 10 points.
West Monroe finishes up the Wossman tournament on Saturday with a rematch against Vision Academy at 2:15 p.m. West Monroe defeated Vision Academy 86-52 on Thursday.
